As per rule 19.17(a) (1) of the 2010 Karting Manual you are now required to use transponders at all kart meetings. We have on order 10 transponders which will be available on Friday 16th July 2010 and can be purchased from Tracy Stewart at his shop at a cost of $280.00. The transponders will need to be charged for 14 – 16 hours.

Facts About Charging Transponders

The relaibility of a transponder both in the short term and in the long term is dependent on caring for the battery by charging it correctly. The instructions enclosed with each new transponder are summarised here:

  • When charging the transponder, always charge it fully  and allow it to fully discharge before recharging it.
  • Charging takes 14 to 16 hours. The LED will flash Red while charging and changes to constant Green when charging is complete.
  • Do not top up the charge, it will reduce battery life.
  • The charge will last 4 to 5 days and the number of Green flashes indicates the number of days remaining. If it is stored in the charger it will last 12 to 15 days.
  • When it flashes Red, it has about one more day.
  • When it is constant Red it still works with the same signal strength but could go flat at any moment.
  • If the transponder has not been used for 3 months, charge it to protect battery life.
